Some of you know that Dr. Johnston has a relatively inactive blog called Sage Homme’s Breastfeeding Blog. He has used it off and on over the years to answer some of the common questions mothers ask about breastfeeding. We have decided to migrate that blog over to Mother’s Helper so that we can reach a new audience. (If you have followed the Sage Homme Blog, have no fear, we will double post.) Dr. Johnston has promised to post at least one time a week, so stay tuned.
We will happily answer any questions that come to this page. Know that the questions take a little time to answer because we don’t just offer advice off the top of our heads. We will be researching and attempting to apply the latest scientific rationale for my replies, and sometimes that takes a little time. Some of the questions however, will stump us because there is very little evidence to use for answering the questions. For example, did you know that there is not much evidence in support of using a supplemental nursing system? Sure, there appears to be some evidence that they help babies feed, but there is no evidence regarding how much the baby takes from mom vs the feeder, how they support learning to feed, or how well they promote success in the long run. In cases like that, we will do our best to give our best, educated guess.
So here we go, what is the first question? What do you want to know? What is bothering you right now? Let us know and we’ll give you an answer.
